Trace Adkins has announced a 30th anniversary vinyl and CD reissue of his landmark debut album, originally released in 1996 and produced by Scott Hendricks.
The album, highlighted by singles like “There’s a Girl in Texas,” “Every Light in the House,” and “I Left Something Turned On at Home,” have remained fan favorites even as Adkins’ catalog has significantly expanded in the years since Dreamin’ Out Loud.
This new edition of the LP and CD comes with a special bonus track, a brand-new studio recording of “Every Light in the House.”
The inspiration for “Every Light in the House” comes from a surprising place. Speaking with Shaw Local Radio in Illinois last year ahead of a performance, the country superstar explained the origins of the track. The interviewer said the song reminded them of turning off all the lights their kids leave on, to which Adkins explained: “That’s how the song came about. Kent Robbins came home one day and his wife had an interior decorator in the house. And so every light in the house was on. And because they explained to him that they could see colors better that way.
“And he said, well, every light in the house is on. And he told me that as soon as he said that, he just went down into the basement and grabbed his guitar and started writing it. And that’s how it happened. He wrote the song in about 30 minutes.”
Though Adkins is looking back on 30 years of Dreamin’ Out Loud, he’s recently been revisiting a number of other old classics. Last year, his playful country romp “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk” received a remix from producers MOONLGHT and Country Night. First released in 2005, the track appeared on Adkins’ LP from that year, Songs About Me, and would become his first Top 40 hit on both the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and Pop 100 charts. By 2022, the record was certified 3x Platinum.
