On Friday evening (August 28), Rockstar Games shared an extended look at Grand Theft Auto 6, which featured lots of gameplay footage captured on a PlayStation 5 (the platform that will, according to developers, run the game the best).

Following that, a handful of articles and interviews with the Grand Theft Auto 6 team went live. Speaking to Dazed, Rockstar North’s co-studio head Rob Nelson said the game would be more grounded and realistic than previous entries in the chaotic series while Kinda Funny Games have reported that creators have denied that Grand Theft Auto 6 will feature two of the most controversial aspects of modern gaming. They have been told by Rockstar that there will be “no monetisations in this game” and Grand Theft Auto 6 will also feature “no AI”.

At the start of the year Strauss Zelnick, boss of GTA 6 publishers Take Two Interactive, said “generative AI has zero part in what Rockstar Games is building. Their worlds are handcrafted. That’s what differentiates them. They’re built from the ground up, building by building, street by street, neighbourhood by neighbourhood. They’re not procedurally generated, they shouldn’t be. That’s what makes great entertainment.”

He did however confirm that Take-Two were “actively embracing generative AI” and the publisher is currently running “hundreds of pilots and implementations” to see how they can “drive efficiencies, reduce costs and [make] mundane tasks easier, which frees up our creators to do the more interesting tasks of making superb entertainment.”

When pre-orders went live for Grand Theft Auto 6 earlier this year, fans could choose between the standard version of the game or the £20 more expensive ‘Ultimate’ edition, which “amplifies the experience with an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia’s story.” Despite backlash over locking several features behind a paywall, a majority of fans have reportedly gone for the ‘Ultimate’ edition of Grand Theft Auto 6.

In other news, Ed Sheeran was a surprise special guest at the Pokémon World Championships this weekend, where he performed the classic Pokémon theme live.
