From Friendship to Heartbreak, Sofia Camara Shares ‘Best Friend’

Sofia Camara has released “Best Friend,” a new single about the end of a friendship after a romantic relationship changes it. The track is out now through 21 Entertainment Group. Rather than focusing only on the breakup itself, the song centers on losing the friendship that existed before the relationship and accepting that the connection may not return to what it was.

Camara co-wrote “Best Friend” with JP Saxe, Ryan Marrone, Alex Sutton and TJ Whitelaw. Mike Wise, a longtime collaborator, produced the track, while Will L’amoureux created its string arrangement. The lyrics frame letting go as a form of care, including the idea that wanting the best for someone may mean accepting a future apart. “It’s about realizing that loving someone means wanting the best for them, even when you’re not part of their story anymore,” Camara said. “There are people you’ll never stop being grateful you met, no matter how it ends.”

“Best Friend” was first heard live at All Things Go in Toronto on June 6, several weeks before its official release. It follows “The Last Encounter,” which arrived May 29 as Camara’s first release of 2026. That song was built around the idea that every relationship eventually has a final interaction, whether or not either person recognizes it at the time. “Best Friend” approaches a related aftermath from another angle, focusing on the friendship that can disappear when romance ends and accepting that the other person may move forward without you.

At the 2026 JUNO Awards, Camara was nominated for Breakthrough Artist or Group of the Year and performed during the March 29 broadcast from TD Coliseum in Hamilton, Ontario. Her 2025 single “Who Do I Call Now? (Hellbent)” has passed 119 million combined streams, while “Girls Like You” reached the Top 5 at Canadian radio and spent more than 20 weeks on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100. This summer, Camara also performed at Rock in Rio Lisboa on June 20, Pinkpop on June 21, Cardiff Castle with Bastille on July 10, Montreux Jazz Festival on July 14 and Lollapalooza Berlin on July 19.
