Coldplay have announced a visual accompaniment to their latest album ‘Moon Music‘, entitled A Film For The Future.

The film, which was created by over 150 different visual artists from 45 countries, has been described by the project’s executive producer Ben Mor as “a kaleidoscopic patchwork quilt – a 44-minute multimedia tapestry.” You can watch a trailer below.

Each artist was given a handful of music snippets from ‘Moon Music’ and asked to create corresponding visuals, according to a press release. There were no rules or guidelines, and no knowledge of other artists’ creations.

The film will premiere worldwide on YouTube on January 22, with special 360-degree screenings also taking place at Lightroom venues in London, Manchester and Seoul – tickets can purchased here. A fan-led remix site for the film, powered by Microsoft AI, will also launch here on January 22.

In each venue, “state-of-the-art audio technology and 11m high projection across four walls and the floor will allow fans to be fully immersed in the visual and audio experience”.

Mor, who also directed Coldplay and Beyoncé in 2016’s ‘Hymn For The Weekend‘ video, said of the new project: “It was a huge privilege to have the bird’s eye view of such an ambitious project, working with so many incredible animators and filmmakers all working independently of each other. The final film is simply jaw-dropping and I can’t wait for Coldplay’s fans to see it.”

The band added: “We’re very grateful to all the amazing artists who lent their genius to this film. They’ve created something very beautiful and we’re extremely proud of it.”

A Film For The Future was first teased on a car numberplate in the artwork for Coldplay’s 2019 album ‘Everyday Life‘, with a section of the project also appearing in July 2024 as the lyric video for the band’s single ‘feelslikeimfallinginlove‘.

Elsewhere, their ‘Music Of The Spheres’ tour recently became the biggest rock tour of all time with the band recently continuing their jaunt in Asia.

They are also set to embark on a UK tour this summer and will take over London’s Wembley Stadium for a 10-night run. Check out a full list of tour dates below and visit here to purchase tickets.

Meanwhile, frontman Chris Martin previously revealed to NME in 2021 that Coldplay would be wrapping things up with a final album in 2025. Later, he elaborated on his comments, revealing his plan for the band’s catalogue to end after 12 albums.

Then, speaking to NME an exclusive interview last year, he shared more details and explained how the end of the band’s time writing new music is fast approaching. He said at the time: “Right now, and since about 2008, if something lands in me as a song or as a good idea and it feels authentic, we’ll do it. It doesn’t matter what anybody else thinks,” he said, explaining where the band are at now.

“It is 12 albums for sure, but we’re going to be a bit later than that. There’s one more thing, which is a musical. [That’s] album number 11, but that might have to come out after album 12 because of how long musicals take to animate.

“Our last single is on this album, and that’s called ‘All My Love’. That’s the last ‘single’ single. We have the musical thing, then an album just called ‘Coldplay’, which is the final one. I think that will be a year late – I know it will be.”
