Susan Sarandon has paid tribute to Tim Curry, her co-star in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, who died on Tuesday (August 25) aged 80.

The beloved character actor was known for many film roles over the years, including the villainous hotel employee in 1992’s Home Alone 2: Lost In New York, Pennywise The Clown in 1990 miniseries IT, and Long John Silver in Muppet Treasure Island (1996). However, it was his performance as Dr. Frank-N-Furter, the mad scientist at the centre of 1975’s The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which remained his most iconic role.
Following the news of his death, Oscar winner Sarandon, who played the role of Janet in the movie, took to Instagram to pay tribute. “What a funny, sexy, original he was,” she wrote alongside a picture of the two.
“But what I loved about him most was his heart. Even wheelchair bound he continued to be so sweet and generous with his fans. Thank you Tim for meaning so much to so many people. Love you, S.”
Curry, who had used a wheelchair since suffering a stroke in 2012, was reported by TMZ to have died on Tuesday, with news of his death being shared on Wednesday (August 26). No cause of death has been shared as yet, although the outlet reported no foul play is suspected.
Tributes also came from the official Muppets Instagram account, who called him an “honorary Muppet” and an “unparalleled” performer. The Broadway production of The Rocky Horror Show also created a mural for the actor, and performed ‘I’m Coming Home’ from the soundtrack in his honour.
In addition to originating the role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter on stage and screen, Tim Curry played the narrator in 2016’s TV tribute The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let’s Do The Time Warp Again!
