Huge names including Josh Homme, Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ Chad Smith and Andrew Watt have come together at a Golf Jam charity event, and covered songs by David Bowie, INXS, Tom Petty and more.

The event took place on Monday (August 31) and was organised by Smith and Watts to raise money for the Chad Smith Foundation – which works to help more young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue music.
Dubbed Golf Jam, the one-day event featured famous faces like Will Ferrell, Joel Madden, Breckin Meyer, NBA legend Derek Fisher, fashion designer Jon Buscemi, Alice In Chains bassist Mike Inez, Josh Klinghoffer, and The Doors guitarist Robby Krieger, and started with 18 holes of championship golf.
From there, there was a live performance aspect of the night, where Chad Smith and Andrew Watt invited a rotating list of musicians to join them on stage to cover some huge rock classics.
One of the highlights of the performance was when Queens Of The Stone Age’s Josh Homme took to the stage and helped break out David Bowie’s ‘Let’s Dance, INXS’s ‘Need You Tonight’, Tom Petty’s ‘Running Down a Dream’ and Warren Zevon’s ‘Werewolves of London’.
Other classic songs on the setlist included Led Zeppelin’s ‘Ramble On’, The Who’s ‘Baba O’Rilley’, Black Sabbath’s ‘War Pigs’, Radiohead’s ‘Creep’, The Cure’s ‘Just Like Heaven’ and The Beatles’ ‘Helter Skelter’.
The night also featured an auction, where one of a kind items were sold off to raise money for the charity, and Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston’s Dos Hombres supplied drinks to guests.
This wasn’t the first time that Josh Homme has taken to the stage to play a cover of a David Bowie track. Back in 2022, he also joined Nile Rodgers, Omar Hakim, Supergrass’ Gaz Coombes and Jane’s Addiction’s Chris Chaney to play a few Bowie songs at the tribute show for Foo Fighters’ drummer Taylor Hawkins.
Speaking to NME in 2023 about what it was like to play ‘Let’s Dance’ at that show, Homme shared: “That felt really good, because I’ve always placed a really high value on escapism as a really top commodity.
“Being able to sing ‘Let’s Dance’ with Nile Rodgers at Wembley for my friend… Taylor would have loved that gig so much. It’s such a wonderful thing that perhaps only Dave [Grohl] could do as a send-off like that. [He was asking] ‘Is this a good way to say ‘I love you’?’ In the years past, I haven’t always known how to say ‘I love you’ to the people that I care about, you know?”
QOTSA are readying to release their upcoming album, ‘Perfecth’. The record is scheduled to arrive on October 30 via Matador Records – pre-save/pre-order here. So far, QOTSA have released the singles ‘Easy Street‘ and ‘Insignificant Other’ ahead of the album.
The album is also said to be inspired by their experience of playing a stripped-back concert at the historic Parisian Catacombs back in 2024, which was captured for an accompanying concert film and live album. NME gave Alive In The Catacombs a four-star review, hailing it as a “moving and meditative concert doc”.
‘Perfecth’ will serve as the follow-up to 2023’s ‘In Times New Roman‘, which NME gave a four-star review.
