Afro Plus Fest, billed as the world’s largest celebration of global Black music and culture, will be taking over the DMV region this Labor Day Weekend. Among the headliners for this year’s Afro Plus Fest are Tems, Ayra Starr, Davido, Wizkid, Alkaline, and more.
Now in its second year, Afro Plus Fest will now take place at the Northwest Stadium Complex in Landover, Maryland in Prince George’s County starting this Friday (September 4) and running through September 6. The all-ages festival has since expanded from a one-day event to a three-day affair.
The festival will center several genres of music, including Afrobeats, soca, dancehall reggae, R&B, amapiano, and Hip-Hop. Joining the aforementioned Tems, Arya Starr, Davido, Wizkid and Alkaline onstage are a bevy of top acts such as Latto, Sexyy Red, Lil Baby, Chief Keef, Odeal, Adekunle Gold, Olamide, Sarkodie, Tiwa Savage, and more via two stages.
Beyond the music, over 100 brand activations and 125 food vendors will be on the grounds, serving up global cuisine and culture for the masses in attendance.
“We packed this weekend so full that the goal is for you not to be able to finish the festival in one day,” said Michael Awosanya, Founder and Executive Producer of Afro Plus Fest. “We wanted to create as much value as we possibly could for every ticket holder. You could come all three days and still miss something. We built it for the fans first.”
Maryland Governor Wes Moore also shared his support for the upcoming festival.
“Afro Plus Fest is a homecoming for African communities across our state and across the country to come together and celebrate the bonds that connect us,” said Gov. Moore. “I’m proud both as a fan and as somebody who understands that this is a chance for everyone to celebrate how deep our culture runs through the music we all love. I have to give a special shout out to the ‘Made in DMV’ performers and hope everyone shows them some love this weekend.”
Keeping with Awosanya’s vision, the event will also feature a carnival with rides and games, an interactive basketball court, art installations, beauty and fashion showcases, wellness hubs, and a varied marketplace featuring Black-owned and DMV-based creators and businesses.
Last year’s sold-out festival drew over 20,000 fans at the RFK Festival Grounds and provided a $10 million boost to the local economy. This year, the festival is expected to host 120,000 fans with an expected local economical boost that could near $60 million. With the size of the festival and the variety of acts, fans representing all corners of the globe will be on hand and local businesses and establishments will no doubt benefit from the positive windfall.
Sales have been robust but tickets remain on a limited basis across all tiers. Three-day passes include General Admission, GA+, VIP, Platinum, and Front of Stage. There are also single-day General Admission passes left for each of the days.
Bottle-service tables will be available in the VIP section and range in pricing, which also includes access to the VIP and GA+ lounges.
Afro Plus Fest kicks off this Friday, September 4 through Sunday, September 6 at 2 PM local time at Northwest Stadium Complex’s lots E&F. Gates open one hour before performances each day.
