The ending of I’m Not Afraid explained – is Felipe rescued?

At the end of I’m Not Afraid, Felipe is indeed rescued – but Miguel is shot in the process, leaving his fate ambiguous.

The finale reveals the full extent of the kidnapping plot. Felipe had been abducted by adults from the village, including people close to Miguel’s own family, as part of a desperate plan to demand ransom from his father, Emilio.

The scheme was born out of poverty and desperation after the local coffee industry collapsed, leaving the village struggling. The plan quickly falls apart when the adults discover Emilio does not have the money they expected.

Felipe had originally been kept in the hole beneath the so-called Witch’s House, where Miguel first finds him. He is later moved to Esmeralda Farm as the kidnappers try to cover their tracks.

By the end, Miguel and his friends decide to do what the adults have failed to do. They steal Félix’s truck keys, head into the forest and rescue Felipe themselves.

Margarita tips off the authorities, and the police begin closing in, but Rodrigo decides that the only way to destroy the evidence is to kill Felipe. He catches up with the children and fires his gun, but Miguel is hit instead.

In the final moments, Felipe stays with Miguel as helicopters arrive overhead. Pino holds his injured son and begs him not to forget him, while Miguel repeats the words that give the series its title: “I’m not afraid.”

The series does not explicitly confirm whether Miguel lives or dies. However, the continued narration suggests he may survive and be recounting the story from the future.
