Spoilers ahead for the final episode of ‘The Boys’
The finale of The Boys has received an enthusiastic reception from fans online, one of whom compared it to the ending of Breaking Bad.

The superhero satire came to a close today (May 20) with Homelander (Antony Starr) finalle meeting his demise in a televised showdown in the White House. The episode also revealed the fates of Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and numerous other favourites.
The fifth and final season has proven divisive among fans, although many taking to X (formerly Twitter) had praise for how Eric Kripke’s show bowed out.
“The Boys finale was actually so good im so glad they stuck the landing” wrote one user, with another adding: “The final episode of The Boys is 10/10″.

One praised the use of Billy Joel’s classic ‘Piano Man’ in a pivotal moment: “Billy Joel’s piano man i’m crying” they wrote, “thank you The Boys for the last 7 years”. Another confessed: “final episode of The Boys is peak, i ugly sobbed throughout the whole thing.”

One fan compared it to the ending of another beloved show. “The Boys series finale is probably the only series finale that was nearly perfect since Breaking Bad” they claimed. Another was critical of season five overall, but called the last episode: “Perfect on every level.”

The fifth season of The Boys received rave reviews from critics, currently standing at 97 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes.
NME’s five-star review of the first six episodes of season five said that the show “avoids the traps that most final seasons stumble into by chasing a clear endgame, instead of trying to constantly subvert expectations. Funny, crass and devastatingly poignant, those hoping for a suitable send-off will get the bloody masterpiece they were searching for.”
In the build up to the closing episode, it was announced that the finale of the show would be screened in cinemas in the 4DX format.
