Inspiral Carpets return with anthemic ‘Drag The Bag’ – their first new single in 12 years

Inspiral Carpets have returned with their first new single in 12 years – check it out below.

‘Drag The Bag’ is “inspired by the grind of life and the universal idea that everybody is carrying something” according to a press release. The anthemic track is “direct, melodic and built for live crowds, it captures the classic immediacy of Inspiral Carpets while sounding completely of the present,” it added.

Their last LP, which was self-titled, was released in 2014. The release of their new single coincides with a series of UK tour dates kicking off at The Live Rooms in Chester on June 26.

The shows will run until September 25 where they will wrap up at Neuadd Ogwen, in Bethesda. You can purchase tickets here.

They also have a series of festival performances lined up in the coming months kicking off at Guilfest in Guildford on July 4.

Elsewhere, the band were involved in the Manchester Merch Market in 2025, along with New OrderThe Charlatans, and many more.

The band previously went on an indefinite hiatus following the death of their drummer, Craig Gill in 2016. At the time the likes of Liam Gallagher, Stephen Holt and the city of Manchester paid tribute to Gill over Twitter.

Formed by Clint Boon, Gill joined Inspiral Carpets at the age of just 14 in 1986. He played with the band throughout their 90s heyday and remained when they reformed to tour and record their self-titled, last album in 2014.

They reunited for a spring tour in 2023 and have continued to perform live ever since.
