Getdown Services announce second album ‘Massive Champion’ with charismatic single ‘I Can’t Die Like That’ and UK tour dates

Getdown Services have announced new album ‘Massive Champion’, and shared both the single ‘I Can’t Die Like That’ and new tour dates.

The record marks the second from the Bristol band, following on from their 2023 cult classic debut ‘Crisps’. It is set for release on August 14 via Breakfast Records and available to pre-order here.

Confirmation of the new album comes following the group making an appearance on Later… with Jools Holland for the first time earlier this week, where they played their song ‘The Radiator’. That track is set to feature on the new LP.

Frontman Ben Sadler and co. describe the new album as an “odyssey of anarchic joy, seditious wit and boundless energy” and one that sees them push their sound into more emotional and absurd directions than ever before.

It was written in green rooms, on long car journeys and in the gaps between relentless touring, and promises to be their most expansive music to date.

“[This album is] about self pity and realising that maybe all of the healing your inner child stuff you hear about isn’t actually total bollocks,” the band shared. “Musically and lyrically I think it’s about us trying to clean up our act a bit.”

Following on from ‘The Radiator’, Getdown Services have today (Wednesday May 20) dropped another single from the record: the elaborate ‘I Can’t Die Like That’.

The single takes on a laid back, charismatic feel throughout – easing in with a relaxed vocal melody and a blues-tinged guitar riff, before settling into the defiant chorus. “You give me too much rope / I’m gonna kiss the floor like the pole / I can’t die like that,” they sing.

“‘I Can’t Die Like That’ is about the feeling of simple things becoming complicated,” the band explained. “We thought it was interesting to think about the ways in which something as straightforward as dying can be difficult. It’s also about clinging on to feelings that comfort you but aren’t necessarily healthy.”

Check it out below, along with the tracklist for ‘Massive Champion’.
