Brother Wolf, the elusive multi-instrumentalist from Michigan, announces the third video from the album After Fear. The album kicks off with Wait, a track steeped in haunting vocals and introspective lyrics that resonate with the patience and longing of the pandemic era. This song probes the changes in ourselves and our relationships imposed by life’s forced pauses, emphasizing the value of time and the pursuit of genuine connections beyond digital interfaces.
Wait delves into how these enforced limitations shape our identities and attitudes, raising questions about whether adversity makes us more patient, kinder, and more appreciative of our existence. It also voices a profound craving for direct, physical interaction and the shared experiences we often overlook until they are momentarily lost.
Directed by Amy Wilson, the video for Wait vividly portrays the yearning for connection that intensified during the pandemic’s isolation period, using the expressive language of dance. As the track escalates toward its climax, the visuals shift dramatically—from muted sepia-toned nature scenes to a vibrant, psychedelic collage of imagery by visual artist Emily Hromi. This transition not enhances the song’s emotional arc, and encapsulates the transformative journey from solitude to a kaleidoscope of interaction.
Choreographer Hannah Sullivan weighed in on the inspiration she had for the beautiful dance performances by Hannah Loss, Carolina Gil-Ortegon, Emma Longworth , and Jasmine Nykamp: “I longed for closeness— and it was the movement and the music that connected each of us through the trees, through the fields, and through the day together,” she says. “I continue to find gratitude in creating together and finding connection in ways that can include—but no longer rely on— proximity.”

Under his everyday guise as Benjamin Hunter, a Communication Studies professor from Grand Rapids, he morphs into Brother Wolf, bringing a diverse array of skills to his music. Beyond his academic pursuits, he is a published zine author and visual artist, and has also produced albums for a varied lineup of artists across the Midwest and beyond. His wide-ranging activities underscore his substantial contributions to both the artistic and intellectual spheres.
