Florence + The Machine Announce ‘Symphony Of Lungs’ BBC Proms Performance

Florence Welch is preparing an incredibly special performance of her debut album Lungs as part of the BBC’s world class classical music festival, BBC Proms, this September.

Titled “Symphony of Lungs,” this iteration of the seminal album will find Florence + The Machine performing the record in full, as arranged and conducted by the Grammy Award-winning Jules Buckley and his Orchestra.

Taking place on September 11 at the Royal Albert Hall, the “Symphony of Lungs” marks Florence’s debut at the BBC Proms and will air live on BBC Radio 3 and recorded for future broadcast on BBC Radio 1, BBC TWO, and BBC iPlayer.

“This album was such a patchwork of a period of time,” says Welch. “Of my messy teenage years and early twenties. I had no idea what I was doing or where it would go and a lot of the songs are simply an exhalation of joy. But that’s really where the sound of Florence + the Machine was born. So to have it still be so present in people’s hearts 15 years later, and to be invited to play through it orchestrally at the BBC Proms is such an honor.”

The BRIT Award-winning Lungs celebrates its 15 year anniversary this July. The album introduced the world to the singular voice of Florence Welch, set the tone for the sound of the following decade in pop music, and remains hugely influential today.

Lungs entered the charts at No.1 in multiple countries, was nominated for countless awards and has gone on to garner 4.7 billion streams globally, including reaching two times Platinum in the U.S. and six times Platinum in the U.K. alone.

Tickets for the BBC Proms go on sale on May 18 at 9:00 a.m. GMT.

As the world’s biggest classical music festival, the BBC Proms offers eight weeks of world-class music-making from a vast array of leading orchestras, conductors and soloists from the U.K. and around the world.
