Gamers believe time is a flat circle, and history is truly repeating itself and not in a good way for Sony after announcing PS5 Live TV.

PS5 Live TV, Sony’s attempt to turn the PS5 truly into a one-stop shop for all your entertainment needs, has finally arrived.

Yes, you could already use popular streaming platforms like Netflix, Hulu, and HBO Max on your console to enjoy your favorite series and movies. Still, now Sony has announced a massive slate of free, ad-supported TV (FAST) channels on the PlayStation 5 console with PS5 Live TV, and it officially went live on August 31.

Live TV on PS5 will center on Sony Pictures Television and launch with more than 100 live channels, with programming ranging from news, sports, movies, TV shows, anime, and more, available directly from the Media section of the PS5 console.

Here is a breakdown of what to expect from the channel via the PlayStation Blog:

Movies – Free movies across action, horror, sci-fi and more, with channels including MovieSphere by Lionsgate, 50 Cent Action, FilmRise Free Movies, Sony One Horror Hits and Cinevault.

TV Shows – Fan-favorite programming including Community, The Shield, Hell’s Kitchen, The Walking Dead, Forensic Files, Unsolved Mysteries, Deal or No Deal USA and Fear Factor, plus Ice Road Truckers from A+E’s HISTORY.

Anime – Anime favorites including Naruto, Sailor Moon, Hunter x Hunter, Death Note and more, including exclusive channels Black Clover and Box Sets channels from Crunchyroll.

Sports – Sports programming from FOX Sports, NASCAR, NBC Sports Now, UFC and more spanning MMA, football, hockey, motorsports, golf, boxing and soccer

News & Weather – National, local and international coverage including NBC News Now, Fox Weather, and LiveNOW from FOX

Creator & Specialty Programming – Programming featuring Hot Ones, Spotify’s The Ringer, Futcrunch, Idle Mode, comedy, action sports, gaming, esports and other creator-led content.

Additional Programming – Discover gaming and esports, creator-led entertainment, documentaries, podcasts and other specialty programming, including eCLUTCH (exclusive) and more.

The news of PS5 Live TV’s arrival comes as Sony is currently on shaky ground, with some gamers following the announcement that the company will ditch physical discs beginning January 2028.

Interestingly enough, gamers were old enough to remember that Microsoft made a similar push with the Xbox One that doomed the company, with former Xbox chief Phil Spencer eventually admitting it led to them losing the console wars, helping the PS4 become the definitive choice for gamers over the Xbox One.

Now, to be fair to Sony, there are differences. The PS5 wasn’t introduced as more of an entertainment hub like the Xbox One was, but this is more or less Microsoft’s moment to dunk on Sony, as they did with sharing games video.

It’s truly an interesting time to be a gamer.
