KISS are celebrating the 30th anniversary of You Wanted The Best, You Got The Best!! with several new vinyl formats. Originally released in 1996, when Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley, and Peter Criss reunited, the album gathers selections from the acclaimed live albums Alive! (1975) and Alive II (1977).
Released separately from the KISSTERIA vinyl boxset for the first time, the collection will be available on vinyl formats, including a 2LP picture disc, which will be available on the official KISS artist store. The album will also be available on Limited Edition Purple Fire 2LP with a first-ever embossed gatefold jacket with expanded photos and a brand-new poster. A 2LP 180-gram black vinyl edition of You Wanted The Best… comes with a gatefold jacket with expanded photos.
You Wanted The Best, You Got The Best!! features four tracks that were unreleased until 1996: “Room Service,” Two Timer,” “Let Me Know,” and “Take Me.” The album’s final track is a nearly 20-minute interview with the band and Jay Leno, titled “KISS Tells All.”
The gold-certified and No. 9 Billboard 200 charting Alive! is a double-album containing live versions of tracks from their first three studio albums, Kiss, Hotter Than Hell, and Dressed to Kill. Among the songs included on You Wanted The Best, You Got The Best!! Are “Parasite,” “Firehouse,” and “Rock and Roll All Nite.” Its followup, 1977’s double platinum-certified No. 7 Billboard 200 charting Alive II, pulls from three albums, Destroyer, Rock and Roll Over, and Love Gun. Cuts from Alive II included here are “Shout It Out Loud,” “Beth,” and “Calling Dr. Love.”
In 2023, KISS released anniversary vinyl editions of Alive III for a celebration of 30 years of the seminal live album. Recorded in the fan strongholds of Detroit, Cleveland and Indianapolis in November 1992, it was their first live album from their non-makeup era.
