Saoirse Ronan has revealed she wants to play a “dark” Bond villain in a future 007 movie.

The Oscar nominee is known for her performances in award-winning dramas such as Little Women, Brooklyn, and Lady Bird, but told Empire she would relish the opportunity to play a villain in the James Bond series, which is currently in the casting process for its 26th instalment.
“I want to go dark,” she explained. “I said that I wanted to be a Bond villain and I’m dead serious. I think it would be really interesting, having a young female villain. Especially for girls and women, to see someone who can just take all that pent-up anger and direct it somewhere, there’s something interesting in that dramatically. So I would love to do more of that.”
There have been many female villains in the Bond series over the years, however they usually serve as a henchman for the main male villain. The last actress to be considered the main villain in a James Bond movie was Elektra King, played by Sophie Marceau in 1999’s The World Is Not Enough.
Casting for the new James Bond movie was officially announced in May, with the search commencing for the actor to replace Daniel Craig following his departure from the role in 2021’s No Time To Die. Director Denis Villeneuve will be at the helm, with Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight writing the script. One of the producers on the movie, Amy Pascal, predicted the next 007 will be unveiled by the end of the year.
Recently, Jacob Elordi, who has been one of the front-runners for the role, avoided questions about auditioning for James Bond while at the Leicester Square premiere of his new film The Dog Stars.
