Scottish soul singer Brooke Combe has shared “Love Was Made Of Stone,” the latest preview of her upcoming second album. The new single follows “Tears Won’t Lie,” her debut release for Fontana Records, and arrives just as Combe heads into a run of UK and European festival dates this summer.
Combe recorded “Love Was Made Of Stone” with The Coral’s James Skelly at Kempston Studios in Liverpool. “The song is about years of what was thought to be real love, but something that turns into manipulation and game playing,” Combe explained. “Almost like that toxic love we’re all aware exists, that you know is no good for you, but you keep holding on with the hope something may change, but it never does.”
Combe recently played Truck Festival and Tramlines and will spend the rest of the summer on the festival circuit, with stops including Victorious Festival, Boardmasters and Sziget Festival. In the fall, she’ll join Jalen N’gonda for a run of UK and European tour dates, including a show at London’s O2 Academy Brixton on October 28. She’ll also support N’gonda across North America in November and December.
Raised in Dalkeith, just outside Edinburgh, Combe grew up immersed in Motown and soul, and cites a wide range of influences including Leon Bridges, Michael Kiwanuka, and Raye, as well as Jalen N’gonda and Jungle. This eclectic mix shaped her debut album, Dancing At The Edge Of The World, released independently last year. That record built her reputation as a leading voice in a new wave of Northern Soul, earning her high-profile support slots with Lionel Richie in the UK and Benson Boone in North America, plus television appearances on Later… With Jools Holland and Jimmy Kimmel Live!
