Christopher Nolan has said that he would consider making a horror film as his next project, highlighting Obsession as the type of film he would like to make.

The Oscar winner is currently enjoying the biggest worldwide opening weekend of his career with The Odyssey, which made $254million (£196million) following its release last Friday (July 17). The opening is also the biggest for a live-action film this year, behind only Toy Story 5 and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the director joked about fans asking him to make a horror movie, given the number of scenes in his new film that have horror elements. “They don’t need to beg me to tell a horror story any more. Just buy a ticket,” he quipped, before addressing whether playing with those themes in his action epic gave him ambitions to make a complete horror film in the future.
“It very much whets my appetite for more,” he explained. “But I’ve always believed that horror as a genre has to be approached very carefully from a conceptual point of view. In other words, you have to have an amazing idea. When you go see a film like Obsession, that’s an amazing idea. That movie works like a motherfucker. It’s not about the technical side. It’s not about what technical itches I would have to scratch. It’s about story. So I’m always looking.”
Obsession became one of the breakout hits of the year, with director Curry Barker’s first feature telling the story of a man who makes a wish for his crush to fall in love with him, only for the result to have deadly consequences. The filmmaker, who came to prominence making short horror films on YouTube, recently said he plans to adapt his online projects into features.
As for Nolan, he recently said it will be “at least” three years until his next film after a gruelling shoot for The Odyssey, which he described as testing “the limits of my own stamina”.
