House Of The Dragon returns with naval spectacle in the season three premiere.
Based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood, the fantasy drama follows the events leading up to the downfall of House Targaryen, 200 years before the events of Game Of Thrones.

The season three premiere depicts the Battle Of The Gullet, which is described as the bloodiest sea battle in Westeros’ history. As you might expect from the Game Of Thrones franchise, that means some major characters have inevitably been wiped off the board.
House Of The Dragon season three premiered on June 21, 2026, with episodes available on NOW and HBO Max in the UK.

There were four key deaths (or five, counting a dragon) in the first episode of season three. The most pivotal was the death of Rhaenyra Targaryen’s (Emma D’Arcy) son Jace Velaryon (Harry Collett), along with his dragon, Vermax, who fell during the battle. His death will inevitably have a profound impact on Rhaenyra, as she becomes more unrelenting in her pursuit of power.
Sharako Lohar (Abigail Thorn) is killed in the battle too. She is murdered by Lord Corlys’ illegitimate son, Alyn Of Hull (Abubakar Salim), in a one-on-one standoff. Meanwhile, Sharako appears to kill her former ally Tyland Lannister (Jefferson Hall) by pushing him overboard. It’s not explicitly clear if Tyland is dead, but considering the weight of his armour and the rocky waters, it would be surprising if he made it out alive.
The other death happened off-screen away from the sea battle. The severed head of Jason Lannister (Jefferson Hall), Tyland’s twin brother, was shown to Daemon (Matt Smith).
Is Corlys Velaryon dead?
Corlys Velaryon (Steve Touissant) falls into the sea during the Battle Of The Gullet. While his fate is left unclear, it’s likely he’s still alive as we don’t see him die on-screen. Also, in George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, Corlys survives the battle.
