Girl In Red will make her acting debut in the upcoming film Low Expectations, which will be released in the UK & Ireland in early 2027.

The singer, real name Marie Ulven, stars in the drama directed by fellow Norwegian Eivind Landsvik, which was shown as part of Director’s Fortnight at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
The movie has found UK and Ireland distribution, with a release date scheduled for early next year. She will act alongside Anders Danielsen Lie, the star of the forthcoming music biopic Everybody Digs Bill Evans.
Screen Daily, which reported the news of the film’s release, described the synopsis as follows: “Low Expectations follows Maja, who falls apart at the height of her music career. Depressed and broke, she moves back home with her mother and works part-time at a local high school, where she slowly finds her way back to life.”
Earlier in the year, the artist spoke to i-D about making her acting career and not wanting to follow the stereotype of a musician who tries to break into acting. “I was like, ‘Oh, I don’t want to be one of those,’ because I know the optics of it. It can look quite bad: ‘Oh, I can do this one thing, so I can probably do everything.’”
She also explained that this and the parallels with her character were what led to her choosing to be credited with her real name. “It would be weird for me to do it as Girl in Red,” she said. “I was convinced it would look really bad for me—that people would mix up me and Maja.
“It’s one thing being an artist and then making a movie, and then one thing being an artist making a movie about making music. But the film really isn’t about the music, it’s about everything around it.”
