Even the most insignificant and frail of beings, upon finally reaching the ultimate endpoint, can choose to be reborn as whatever they desire.
XLOV’s 2nd EP Album,”I,God,” marks a pivotal moment in the narrative they have consistently woven since their debut—one previously defined by the pain and imperfection inherent in “incomplete love.” Having finally achieved inner wholeness, they have ascended to the status of a “God”—a transcendent entity beyond the reach of any mortal—and have undergone a “reincarnation.” Now, they personally guide the path of those who, like their past selves, still bear the appearance of ordinary beings.
The central thematic motif of their debut single, <I’mma Be>—”Chess”—makes a return in this new release via a flashback sequence. Specifically, the album explores the chess rule known as “Pawn Promotion.” Furthermore, the release conveys a multifaceted message: it suggests that the narrative XLOV has been unfolding since their debut is not merely their own story, but potentially a reflection of the very public—the listeners and viewers—who have engaged with it. It implies that, much like a “God,” they had already foreseen and anticipated the public’s sentiments, their incisive reactions, and their myriad emotions. Through the very title of the album, “I,God, ” listeners can fully experience this deepening maturity in their artistic identity.
The album is a special collection that allows listeners to savor the full breadth of the group’s musical spectrum, track by track. Highlights include the jazz-infused intro track ‘法則:THE RULES’; the title track ‘SERVE,’ which showcases the diverse sonic colors of a groovy bassline. The music video features renowned actress Han Sohee.
‘Extancy’—a unit track by members Wumuti and Rui that blends intense, tech-driven House beats with hyperpop elements; ‘BACK 2 BACK,’ which combines powerful 808 bass sounds with an Oriental flair to fully capture the multifaceted charm of XLOV; ‘HIPS’—a unit track by members Hyun and Haru featuring a vibrant hip-hop sound driven by the interplay of bass and punchy drums; and finally, ‘Masterpiece,’ an EDM-based pop track that serves as the album’s grand finale.
