Warhorse Studios, the team behind ambitious open-world game Kingdom Come: Deliverance, have confirmed they’re working on a new Lord Of The Rings game.

Amazon had started working on a new The Lord Of The Rings game in 2023 after a previous attempt was scrapped. Last year, it was reported that the rebooted project had also been cancelled. Earlier this week, Amazon’s Head of Games Jeff Grattis confirmed the rumour but reassured fans that they were still “exploring a compelling new game experience that does justice to Tolkien’s world.”
It’s now been confirmed that Warhorse Studios are working on a brand new Lord Of The Rings game. “You might have heard the rumours, it’s time to reveal what we are working on,” they wrote on social media before confirming an “open world Middle-earth role-playing game” was in the works alongside a “new Kingdom Come adventure.”
No further details have been shared but Warhorse has said they’ll reveal more “when the time is right”.

Warhorse’s last game was 2025’s Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, an open-world role-playing game set in the midst of a brutal civil war in 15th-century Medieval Europe. The game has been praised for its intricate world-building, the freedom players have to explore on their own terms, and the relationships they can foster with a wide variety of NPCs.
“Instantly one of my most anticipated games,” wrote one fan on Reddit. “Given how immaculate the environmental art was in Kingdom Come: Deliverance, especially all the greenery, Warhorse is absolutely gonna cook with Middle-earth,” said another. “Warhorse is one of the game studios I’d trust the MOST with a game set in the world of Lord Of The Rings. They’re a very talented studio with a lot of attention to detail. I can just tell this shit’s gonna be goated,” added a third.
Some fans had been worried about the future of the Kingdom Come franchise after Warhorse studio head Daniel Vávra stepped down earlier this year to focus on the Kingdom Come movie adaptation instead.
