Doja Cat has praised Chappell Roan‘s “attitude” in a candid new video revealing her borderline personality disorder (BPD) diagnosis.

Following Roan’s now-viral encounter with hordes of paparazzi in Paris – in which the pop star said she felt “disregarded as a human” and turned the tables by filming them – Doja weighed in on a new TikTok video praising her authenticity.
“I’ve learned from a very young age to pretend that I like stuff, to pretend that I’m happy, to pretend that I don’t like stuff that I do, to appear like everything is OK,” she explained. “And it caught up with me, and I think it always does for people. I’m now struggling with BPD.”
Making a link between Roan’s unabashed honesty and her own attempts to mask the condition – which is characterised by emotional instability and intensity – she said the way people were treating Roan “for showing her discomfort” was similar to the way she had often felt while dealing with her BPD.
“I love that she can be uncomfortable comfortably in front of people and protect herself and be honest,” Doja said.
“I had to learn how to be honest. I love that she can do that without hurting people. She hasn’t hurt one person by being herself, and that shows that I can do the same.”
Doja Cat defends Chappell Roan’s recent encounter with paparazzi via TikTok:
“I fucking love that she does it. I love that she can be uncomfortable comfortably in front of people and protect herself and be honest. I had to learn how to be honest. I had to learn how to be honest… pic.twitter.com/s4ZreXmtTG

The rapper was also in agreement with Roan about the paparazzi, adding: “To be like ‘fuck the paparazzi’ is the best way to be, because fuck them.”
She further alluded to a culture of online autograph scalpers, where people “pose as fans and ask for signatures.”
“I’m a person in this profession, I do this, there are people who are not fans that show up and they want you to sign stuff, and they go and they sell it wherever,” she said, pointing out that “artists aren’t just ignoring people because they’re full of themselves”.
She rounded off her video by reiterating that people should “let [Roan] have an attitude,” and said that the incident inspired her: “I would love to have one as well, and I fucking will, hopefully in the future.”
The recent Paris incident is far from the only time that the former NME Cover star has called out intrusive behaviour from fans and paparazzi.
Back in 2024, she divided opinions when she compared fame to “an abusive ex-husband” and vented about the normalisation of extreme fan behaviour including “stalking, talking shit online, [people who] won’t leave you alone, yelling at you in public.”
Prior to that, she had taken to TikTok to share her thoughts on “weird” and “creepy” followers, calling out the “predatory behaviour” of so-called “superfans” that includes “nonconsensual physical and social interactions”, and also hit back at photographers who yelled at her on the VMAs red carpet.
Her statements have since been applauded by celebrities like Miley Cyrus, Stevie Nicks, Rachel Zegler, and Daniel Craig, the latter saying he admires “the guts to say those things”. Olivia Rodrigo also revealed that Roan has been a key support figure in helping her deal with an “overwhelming” entertainment industry.
Doja is the latest celebrity to come out in Roan’s defence since footage of the incident went viral. Earlier this week, Noah Kahan posted a video on social media in support of the pop singer, while Boy George urged her to “own” her fame.
