Wasteman actor Tom Blyth has opened up about his chances of being cast as James Bond, admitting that he’s a fan of the iconic franchise.

Blyth has been part of the conversations surrounding who the next Bond could be, alongside names from Jacob Elordi and Callum Turner (who himself refused to comment on rumours a few days ago) to Harris Dickinson and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, continuing on from previous Bond Daniel Craig.

Blyth, who appeared in the romantic comedy People We Meet On Vacation last month, was speaking to Metro at the London Film Festival premiere of Wasteman, out today (Friday February 20), when he was asked about playing 007.

“Anyone from this part of the world who grew up wanting to be an actor, and seeing people ahead of them forging the path, can’t help but idolise that culture of acting that comes through the Bond franchise,” he said.

He added: “I grew up on those films so that would be lovely. I don’t see it happening, but of course that would be lovely. It’s a great story and I grew up with all those actors who played him.”

In Wasteman, meanwhile, Blyth plays Dee, a prison inmate who’s given a new roommate, prison cook Taylor. Taylor is preparing to be released, but as they become friends and subsequently fall out, his release is threatened.

About playing the explosive Dee, Blyth said: “It almost feels messed up to say it was fun because he’s such a dark character, and he’s dealing with so many demons and putting them on other people.”

In an exclusive behind-the-scenes video shared last month, Blyth said, “At the last minute, Dee comes into Taylor’s life to challenge him in every single way. It’s a real yin and yang situation. It’s so electric and pretty harrowing.”

“Me and David [Jonsson, who plays Taylor] have been looking for a project to do together for a long time, then he found this script and thought I’d be good at Dee… now I’m thinking that’s not actually a compliment,” he added. “The film has this layer of authenticity. We’re making it feel real and not some Hollywood version of a prison story.”
