The cast of Stranger Things played a lot of Mario Kart while filming the fifth and final season and, according to Maya Hawke, Sadie Sink is an absolute “monster” at the game.

Production for the fifth season of Stranger Things began two years ago on January 8 2024, and finally wrapped in December the same year. During the year-long process, the cast spent their free time playing a lot of Mario Kart.

Speaking to IGN, Maya Hawke revealed that 2024 was the year she “finally started to get good” at Mario Kart. “But not actually good because Sadie [Sink] beats me every single time. She’s a monster at Mario Kart. She’s so good.”

Hawke went on to say that she typically plays as Luigi and has also been spending a lot of time with murder mystery game Blood On The Clocktower.

Shortly before the fifth season of Stranger Things started filming, Gaten Matarazzo told Screen Rant that he was “scarily good” at Mario Kart. “I developed this love for the game and now I’m good at it to the point where people don’t like playing with me, which I think is a great flex. “I drive as Link or Yoshi. And actually, those are my two for Super Smash Brothers as well,” he added.

Late last year, Matarazzo went viral for poking fun at the second Grand Theft Auto 6 delay. “We did the whole series of [Stranger Things] before we got GTA 6. I was 11 years old when GTA 5 came out [and] I’m now an adult. I’m in my 20s,” he said. “But I’d rather it be good. Take that time. Do that delay. We’ll be here when it’s here. We’ll be ready.”

Meanwhile his co-star Finn Wolfhard has his eyes set on a starring role in the God Of War adaptation but “not as the scrawny son. [I want to be] Kratos. I’d bulk up.”

The final episode of Stranger Things premiered on New Year’s Day and despite plenty of speculation over the past week, a secret ninth episode never materialised. However a new crossover with Minecraft has gone live, if fans want more from The Upside Down.

In other news, hugely popular free-to-play video game PUBG Mobile has revealed a collaboration with Peaky Blinders that runs until February 5.
