Johnny Knoxville announced the new movie on social media earlier this week, and TMZ has reported that old and previously unseen footage featuring Margera is set to be included in the film.

A source told the outlet that Jackass producers reached out to Margera’s team late last year to let them know of the new instalment. It’s expected to bring back some of the franchise’s most classic stunts, using old and new material.

“Well a wang dang and hot damn doodle, we are starting the year off with a bang,” Knoxville wrote when announcing the movie. “We wanted to let you know that this summer Jackass is back … More to come but wanted you to hear it from us first!!”

Jackass began as an MTV show in 2000, featuring the likes of Knoxville, Margera, Steve-O and Chris Pontius pushing themselves to the limit by taking part in risky pranks and stunts. It came to the big screen two years later, and there have been four films, as well as two TV specials and two Jackass Presents movies. The most recent film, Jackass Forever, was released in 2022.

In a four-star review, NME described Jackass Forever as “pure, prank-filled fun (plus a lot of testicles),” adding: “There’s a kindness and companionship – and freedom – to Jackass Forever that makes for 90 minutes of pure joy. Remember joy?”

Margera was cut from Jackass Forever due to issues with substance abuse allegedly violating his contract. Last summer, he distanced himself from the franchise again, and said: “You couldn’t offer me enough money to want to do another”.

Bam later went on to sue Knoxville, director Jeff Tremaine, producer Spike Jonze and distributor Paramount over wrongful termination. The lawsuit alleged that Margera had been “coerced” into signing the agreement and that he had been taking Adderall as a prescription for a decade. A settlement was reached in 2022.

Late last year, Margera reunited with Pontius, the latter sharing photos of them together on Instagram.

But despite Margera’s reported U-turn on coming back to Jackass, it’s unknown whether he’ll film any fresh scenes or stunts for the movie.

Last year, meanwhile, Margera appeared in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 video game. A report claimed that Hawk demanded his long-standing friend be included in the game after originally being cut from the remake.
