The latest update for Final Fantasy 14 is set to go live next week (December 16) and as part of the patch, a new Arcadion raid dungeon will be added to the game.

“With the cruiserweight division conquered, the unstoppable upstart now rises into the fearsome heights of the heavyweight tier,” reads the official description. “The threat of psychonekrosis ever looms, and to claim its cure, you must seize the grand champion’s crown – and make your rightful ascension!”

This new challenge will be soundtracked by ‘Everything Burns’, a new collaborative track from Tom Morello and Beartooth’s Caleb Shomo.

“Very excited to announce that I’ve been working on something very special with the team at Final Fantasy 14,” said Morello on social media. “It all started when Jason Charles Miller told me that Soken-san (Masayoshi Soken), the composer of Final Fantasy 14, was a huge Rage Against The Machine fan and wanted to collaborate. So I got down to work and rocked this track with Beartooth, who are a great band.”

“We wanted to make something super heavy and super powerful. I wanted to make an absolute rocking banger of a track that would mirror the energy and potency of this game. Super excited to hear the full track.”

It hits streaming next week, however, you can hear a snippet below.

Writing on X, Soken called Morello one of his “favourite” musicians and that working together was “totally nonsensical.”

Speaking to NME earlier this year, Soken said: “I don’t know why Final Fantasy matches so well with that type of music but, to me, it felt like the game experience was asking for rock.” Last year’s Arcadion raid was soundtrack by Chrissy Costanza’s ‘Give It All’.

As part of the upcoming patch, new quest Into The Mist will also be added to Final Fantasy 14. “The machinations of Calyx and Preservation have been thwarted, releasing Alexandria from the throes of chaos,” explains the official description. “As the nation’s people begin to move forward, so too must the Warrior of Light’s companions─and for Krile, this means turning to face the question that has trailed her like a second shadow through her once-foreign homeland.”

Speaking about the future of Rage Against The Machine earlier this year, Morello said the band had always been “a volatile situation”.

“The fact that we got four great records, the fact that we played shows in 2022… We finished with five sold-out nights at Madison Square Garden. So if there’s never another show, then that’s quite a way to go out,” he explained. “But in the meantime, I cross my heart and hope to die, I am carrying the torch for every one of those riffs and all of the meaning in those songs as well as the other things that I’ve been in. That music matters so much to me, and what it’s about matters so much.”

In other news, pop-punk giants Neck Deep have launched their own video game to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of their iconic track ‘December’.
