Today (January 24), South Korean entertainment company CJ ENM announced the first two KCON events to take place this year. It is so far set to kick off with a show in Chiba, Japan this May over the course of three days, followed by another instalment in Los Angeles, US in August.
Although only two stops have been revealed so far, CJ ENM are expected to announce further expansions into other cities and regions. Notably, the K-pop festival held shows in Europe and Hong Kong last year. KCON also landed in Thailand and Saudi Arabia in previous years.
KCON LA was first launched in 2012, since becoming an annual affair before expanding to cities across the world. According to the event’s official description, KCON combines “masterfully produced K-pop shows with a convention where fans can experience every aspect of Korean culture – from music and fashion, to television and food”.
Last year’s LA iteration took place at the Crypto Arena Convention Center and Gilbert Lindsay Plaza, featuring a line-up comprised of top K-pop acts such as BIBI, BOYNEXTDOOR, ENHYPEN, Kep1er, NCT 127, NMIXX, P1Harmony, SHINee’s Taemin and more.
KCON 2024 marked new heights for CJ ENM, after KCON Japan welcomed a record-breaking crowd of 140,000 while KCON LA saw over 5.4million fans across both its physical venues and online platforms. It also became the first-ever national primetime broadcast of a K-pop show in American television history via CW Network, per Billboard.
Further details about line-ups and venues for this year’s instalments are to be announced at a later stage.
