Multi-platinum singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Chelsea Cutler has announced her fourth studio album, IS THIS THE END?, which will arrive September 25 via Mercury Records. The announcement comes with the new single “This Time Of The Year,” an intimate song about reconnecting with a past relationship and realizing that some feelings remain even after time has passed.
Across IS THIS THE END?, Cutler reflects on nightlife, relationships, heartbreak, uncertainty, and the questions that can accompany the transition toward 30. She describes the record through specific images of New York, including the West Side Highway, the East River, Dumbo, and the Manhattan skyline, alongside memories of dates, nights out, grief, and early-morning stillness. “This album is chaos and mess, hurt and healing, motion and stillness,” Cutler explained in a press release. Cutler went on to say she wants listeners to find solidarity in the album’s messier moments and to accept that changing direction, reconsidering decisions, and reorienting can be part of moving forward.
“This Time Of The Year” focuses on an old relationship specifically. Cutler recalls the other person’s hazel eyes, the smell of cigarette smoke on clothes, and the seasonal details that bring the relationship back into focus. The song moves from a seemingly casual reconnection toward the recognition that the attachment has not fully disappeared.
The album announcement follows Chelsea Cutler’s recent singles “BAD,” “SORRY I’M OBSESSED WITH YOU,” and “WHAT ELSE?,” all of which have been described as “offering the first glimpses into the emotional and sonic world of IS THIS THE END?”
