Japanese composer and pianist Akira Kosemura will release his new album Solo Piano on October 30 via Decca Records. The project is his first newly recorded solo piano album in three years, following 2023’s SEASONS. Its first single, “Spring Night Rain – Main Title Theme,” is out now, accompanied by a new visualizer.
Rather than focusing on a single soundtrack, Solo Piano draws from music Kosemura has written for several screen projects and pairs those reworked pieces with new original material. The film selections include Fragments of the Last Will, True Mothers and The Boy and the Dog. The television drama Meet Me After School is also represented, together with music from the anime series Honey Lemon Soda and Blue Orchestra.
Kosemura personally selected compositions and recordings that hold particular significance for him as he assembled Solo Piano. For the new versions, he recorded entirely on one upright piano, giving every selection the same stripped-back instrumental setting regardless of how it first appeared.
Kosemura’s recent releases have moved between vocal, collaborative and instrumental projects. In 2025, he released MIRAI, which featured seven guest vocalists, including Devendra Banhart and Miyuki Hatakeyama. In 2026, Kosemura followed with Reach For NAGA, a collaboration with sound engineer Hiroshi Iguchi.
