Get your ’90s West Coast G-Funk playlist queued up because the Snowfall spinoff series The Drop: A Snowfall Saga is hitting FX and Hulu on September 8th! The Drop follows Gail Bean’s Wanda Bell and Isaiah John’s Leon Simmons, two Snowfall fan favorites, as they take West Coast rap to the mainstream against a backdrop of gang war chaos and shady record label politics, and judging by the new trailer, showrunner Malcolm Spellman and the Snowfall team captured the era to a tee.
As an Angeleno, I can tell you that from what the trailer shows, they’ve nailed the vibe and feel of the Southland and the fascinating cross-section of gangster culture and ’90s hip-hop. The Drop is promising an abundance of partying, tricked-out low-rider shots, and a whole lot of chaos this season, all under the warm golden light of Los Angeles. Frankly, the trailer is making the whole thing look pretty damn great, and we were already pretty hyped to begin with.
Check out the trailer here. The Drop: A Snowfall Saga premieres Tuesday, September 8th at 9 PM ET / 6 PM PT on FX and Hulu, with the eight-episode season rolling out one episode a week on Tuesday nights.
