The moment took place last night (Tuesday August 11) when the folk rock band took to the stage at the iconic venue in New York City. During the gig, they highlighted that the actor – who is the main star and co-creator of the series – was in the crowd, and brought him on stage.

Together, they broke out the show’s theme song, which was written by Marcus Mumford, alongside much of the Ted Lasso soundtrack.

Loud cheers could be heard from the audience during the majority of the performance, and the frontman hugged the actor at the end of the collab, before he headed back to his seat in the crowd.

The surprise appearance comes as Ted Lasso recently returned for the fourth season, premiering on Apple TV at the start of the month.

In the new season, we catch up with Lasso following him leaving Richmond at the end of season three and returning to the states. Alongside Sudeikis, other returning members of the cast include Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, Jeremy Swift, Brendan Hunt and Juno Temple.

New additions to the cast include Grant Feely, Aisling Sharkey, Rex Hayes, Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Abbie Hern, and Faye Marsay.

Mumford & Sons’ theme song for Ted Lasso was nominated for an Emmy back in 2021, and the latest show at MSG comes after the band brought out more special guests when they performed at BST Hyde Park in London last month, introducing Shania Twain and Hozier during the set.

The tour dates come in support of their sixth studio album ‘Prizefighter‘ – which dropped in June and features huge names like Hozier, Gracie Abrams, Chris Stapleton, and Gigi Perez.

As for Sudeikis, the actor made another surprise cameo last month, when he and Brendan Hunt showed up as their Ted Lasso characters to make an appearance during the halftime show at the World Cup final. Organised by Coldplay’s Chris Martin, the two of them popped on screen to give a pep talk to Justin Bieber just before his live performance on the night.
