‘KPop Demon Hunters’ bumper art book to offer a deep-dive on the hit musical

A new book about the making of KPop Demon Hunters will unearth the mythology and artistic process behind the Netflix phenomenon.

Released last June, the animated musical became Netflix’s most-watched movie of all time. It tells the story of HUNTR/X, a world-famous K-Pop group who perform for their fans by day, but battle demons by night. The success of the film has led to live concerts and a sequel being planned. Now, a new book titled The Art Of KPop Demon Hunters: Platinum Edition will take fans on a deep dive into the making of the movie.

The 144-page book will feature 500 pieces of concept art, character studies, and final designs from the film. Along with the visual aspect, the book will delve into the inspirations behind the movie, including real-life K-Pop bands, Korean mythology, and Shamanism. The book’s platinum edition features holographic page edges that evoke the Honmoon, the veil that HUNTR/X protect in the movie.

The book will be released on September 8, with the UK listing found here. The standard edition of the book is available for pre-order here.

KPop Demon Hunters remains at the top of the Netflix charts, having been watched more than twice as many times as Netflix’s next most popular film, according to their own viewing reports. The animated musical has accumulated 648.7million views across Netflix’s What We Watched reports, putting it comfortably ahead of second-placed The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which has been viewed 271.7million times.

A physical Blu-ray release has also been planned, a rarity for a Netflix film, as the movie has been selected for the prestigious Criterion collection. The company specialise in restoring and releasing impactful films on physical media, with a place in the Criterion Collection being seen as cementing a movie’s legacy as an important work. The Blu-ray release is planned for this winter.
