Red Velvet has officially released its new summer mini album, “Velvet Summer”, across all major streaming platforms, alongside the official music video for the title track, ‘Surfin’ Boy’.
Arriving just over two years after the group’s 2024 release “Cosmic”, “Velvet Summer” marks Red Velvet’s highly anticipated return as a full group. Across five tracks, the mini album explores a vibrant range of summer sounds and moods, drawing from bossa nova, reggae, dance-pop, classical and acoustic influences while showcasing the group’s signature musical versatility.
The title track, ‘Surfin’ Boy’ is a breezy dance-pop song that blends mellow bossa nova guitar, laid-back reggae rhythms, and a sleek house groove. Red Velvet’s cool, dreamy harmonies give the track a bright yet sophisticated atmosphere, evoking the feeling of drifting across the ocean on a sunny day. JOY, who has continued to grow as a songwriter through her solo work, served as the sole lyricist for both ‘Surfin’ Boy’ and ‘Hawaii’, bringing a more personal touch to the album.
Ahead of the album’s release, Red Velvet reunited with fans at the sold-out 2026 Red Velvet FAN-CON <A Day in Red & Velvet>. Held from 31 July 31 to 2 August at Korea University’s Hwajeong Gymnasium in Seoul, the event featured the first live performances of ‘Surfin’ Boy’ and ‘Hula Hoop’.
With hits including ‘Red Flavor’, ‘Power Up’, ‘Umpah Umpah’ and ‘Queendom’, Red Velvet has long been celebrated as one of K-pop’s defining summer acts. With “Velvet Summer”, the group builds on that legacy with a softer, more mature take on its signature seasonal sound.
“Velvet Summer” is available now on all major streaming platforms, with physical albums available through online and offline retailers.
