Originally released back in 2006, Okami is an action adventure game that pulls from Japanese folklore and mythology. “Take on the role of Amaterasu, the Japanese sun goddess who inhabits the form of a legendary white wolf, on a quest to defeat Orochi, an eight-headed demon and tyrannical monster responsible for turning the world of Nippon into a ruined wasteland,” reads an official description of the game.
One of the last games released for the PlayStation 2 before the PlayStation 3 launched in 2007, Okami’s initial sales were slow but the critically-acclaimed game went on to find a cult audience and a remastered version was released in 2017.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Okami, record label Data Discs have teamed up with Capcom to release Masami Ueda, Hiroshi Yamaguchi, Rei Kondoh and Akari Groves’ orchestral soundtrack on vinyl.

“The music of Okami perfectly embodies the creative beauty of the game and its recurring themes of restoration and resolve,” say Data Discs. “Using traditional Japanese instruments and inspired by distant folklore, the score moves between peacefulness and danger, and colour and darkness; echoing the dualities of the natural world and transporting the listener to an ancient Nippon that never existed, yet feels like a half-remembered dream. Okami is one of the most contemplative, unique, and unequivocally beautiful game scores ever made.”
The 4LP Okami vinyl collection comes with a 40 page artbook and a double-sided lithographic art print featuring original illustrations from the archives. Data Discs have sold out, but you can pre-order a copy of the Okami vinyl through Fangamer.
A Okami sequel is currently in development at Capcom. “Okami is a game critically acclaimed for its unique world, heartwarming story, and exciting adventures. Now, a new adventure in the same vein as Okami has been set in motion,” said Capcom back in 2024. “What will the new adventures of Amaterasu and company be like? It will be some time before we greet you again, but we really hope you look forward to this project.”
