Speaking on The Louis Theroux Podcast, the actress and director reflected on a meeting she once had with the tech billionaire at SpaceX.

At the time, she said, she was involved with an organisation in Haiti that was building hospitals and schools, and Musk had expressed an interest in supporting it financially.

“I got to go on a tour because I wanted to see the rocket ships,” she recalled. Musk, she said, was “interested in donating money to an organisation that I was a part of in Haiti that was building hospitals and schools”. According to Wilde, “he was quite interested in donating money, and, I believe he did donate a little bit of money, and that’s appreciated”.

She added: “I never would’ve predicted that he would go the path that he’s gone now because he did seem really smart.”

While she said she once believed he was intelligent and willing to support charitable work, Wilde claimed his public views have since changed so dramatically that she now sees him in a very different light.

She went on to criticise what she described as powerful men believing they can solve human problems by controlling society and women’s choices, linking Musk’s comments about an “underpopulation crisis” to what she sees as a broader pattern of male power over women’s bodies and futures.

Wilde described Musk as having “turned into this creature,” adding: “I really resent him now, I really deeply resent him.”

Musk is yet to comment publicly on Wilde’s comments.

Elsewhere, Musk was recently among those to criticise Lupita Nyong’o’s casting in The Odyssey, accusing director Christopher Nolan of being an “anti-white racist” who had lost his “integrity” for recruiting a black woman for the role.

Nolan responded to the backlash over some of the casting choices as “irrelevant”.

Meanwhile, Wilde’s new film, The Invite, recently landed in cinemas. NME awarded the film four stars and said: “Truth be told, this is a wonderfully written piece, with Wilde marshalling the performances with great skill in a contained setting. With all four actors at the top of their game – Rogen even holds back on that frequent Muppet-like chuckle of his – this is that rare thing. An adult movie, that will make you think, laugh and relate. It’s a dynamite date movie, ready to explode in your face.”
