After months and months of leaks, Black Ops and Black Ops 2 have finally hit PS4 and PS5. However, the experience doesn’t offer any major upgrades or enhancements. They are straight ports of the original PS3 games, so you don’t get the DLC included.

But players are curious if the servers are exclusively allowing players of the same platform to play with each other or if there is some kind of crossplay between the PS5 and PS4 versions. Here is how it works.
Black Ops and Black Ops 2 do not have any form of crossplay with these newly released versions. Each game has separate matchmaking pools per platform, and these pools are split even further if players buy the DLC. Both Black Ops and Black Ops 2 are then split into players who have the DLC and players who don’t.
This will be disappointing for some, but the games aren’t remasters. There are no active improvements, and these ports actually remove several features, including Studio Mode, Wager Matches, and even small things like the live player numbers.
This has caused a lot of outrage on social media as the games aren’t remastered or upgraded in any form. These are simple ports to allow players to play the game, as both are available on Xbox thanks to Backwards Compatibility.
We don’t expect this to change, but we will update this page if it does.
