Found footage horror franchise V/H/S is returning with a film that incorporates the internet phenomenon SCP Foundation.

Beginning in 2012, the V/H/S movies are found footage horror anthologies, with each movie broken up into different segments of fictional horror presented as reality. There have been eight V/H/S movies so far, with directors such as Johannes Roberts (Primate), Gareth Evans (The Raid), and Scott Derrickson (Doctor Strange) contributing.
Now, Variety reports that the new film, V/H/S: SCP, will incorporate the SCP Foundation lore into its story. Beginning in the mid-2000s, SCP Foundation is a work of collective fiction documenting the cases of the SCP (Special Containment Procedures), a secret organisation that is responsible for capturing and studying various paranormal and supernatural entities (referred to as “anomalies” or “SCPs”).
According to the outlet, the new film will be presented as “recovered field documentation” from the organisation, with each segment following a different SCP case. The film is scheduled for released in 2027.
It marks the ongoing influence of internet culture on the horror genre, with many hit movies drawing inspiration from online memes or trends. One of the most successful examples is Backrooms, Kane Parsons’ adaptation of the “creepypasta” horror story that has also inspired fan fiction, web series, and video games.
Another popular online figure was also announced as making its big screen debut, as Weapons director Zach Cregger was revealed to be writing a movie based on the Siren Head character.
The found footage horror sub-genre was popularised in the late ‘90s with the hit The Blair Witch Project, which purported to show the lost tapes of a group of filmmakers in search of the legend of the Blair Witch. A new film in the franchise was recently announced.
