Miami-based electronic band Astari Nite return with an exclusive remix of “Why Are You So Lame,” the lead track from last May’s Medications in Bloom EP. The remix is lovingly constructed by renowned New York City DJ, producer, musician, and engineer Hi-Fi Hillary, aka Hillary Johnson, head of Kale Shelter Studios, who also mixed and mastered the original EP.
While the original version of the track is already a catchy, chorus-driven affair, the remix is a true celebration of Miami dance culture, toning down some of the original’s guitar-driven approach to allow for a glorious blend of freestyle, disco, electroclash, and EBM, all sounds which thrive in Astari Nite’s hometown. There’s even a little nod to chiptune tossed in for good measure, a welcome treat for fans of the genre. Ripe for the dance floor or for a stern strut on hot summer streets, the remix is a welcome addition to the band’s ever-growing catalogue.
Johnson’s many credits over the years include recording/engineering work for bands such as Bootblacks, Liste Noire, Second Still, Angels of Light, Autodrone, My Favorite, and Bell Hollow, the latter which she also played live keyboards with. She has also recently remixed a track by NYC staple Black Rose Burning and has upcoming remixes scheduled with Darkswoon, Negative Agent, and The Harrow.
Astari Nite vocalist Mychael Ghost offers a few words about working with Johnson:
Hillary is a genius! In fact, New York City should have a parade named after her. The love that she poured into the “Medications In Bloom” EP will never leave my heart. I explained to her how stupid I am though I would like my songs to sound like this and she did just that. Melodies I never knew existed were brought to light. Her creativity levels are fascinating. Her pure honesty is what shaped the EP and colored it wonderfully.
