from20 returns with his second full-length album, Rated R,which reinterprets the nostalgia of 90s-2000s R&B and hip-hop through a modern lens. The album is led by the title track “BIG BOY” that explores themes of quiet confidence, self-expression, and owning your vibe.
Last year, from20 made a strong impression on global K-pop audiences with the pre-release singles “Eye Candy” and “Social,” showcasing his trendy R&B sound. Including both tracks, Rated R marks his first full-length project in nearly five years and his most defining work yet – an album that captures his artistic identity.
The title “Rated R” is inspired by the American film rating Restricted. Much like Korea’s “Adults Only” classification, it symbolizes emotions and desires that some may find uncomfortable or choose to hide, elements that from20 boldly and playfully explores in his own unique way.
At the same time, the “R” also stands for his real name, RAEHWAN. Not a rating defined by anyone else, but one completed entirely through his own standards and language: Rated R.
The 13 track album is packed with provocatively titled tracks such as “BIG BOY,” “Naked,” “Scandal,” and “F-Boy,” each revolving around themes of confidence, desire, rumors, and gossip.
The title track “BIG BOY” is a pop song built on a foundation of 90s hip-hop sounds, centered around the message: “No matter who you are or what you look like, we are all hot.” Body positivity, diversity, and self-confidence free from the constraints of body type, image, or societal standards. Through “BIG BOY,” from20 presents his most honest, liberated, and unapologetic self.
