Kim Jung-nam, the father of singer from20 (real name Kim Rae-hwan), has been elected mayor of Gangneung as the candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) — making it the first victory for the DPK in the region in 30 years.
According to the National Election Commission (NEC) on the 4th, Kim Jung-nam won 58,350 votes, or 51.19%, in the 9th Nationwide Local Elections held on the 3rd. He defeated People Power Party candidate Kim Hong-gyu, who received 48,478 votes, or 42.53%, and was elected mayor of Gangneung.
As a result, attention has once again turned to the support Kim Jung-nam received from his son from20, who debuted in the idol group Bigstar (2012-2019) and is now active as a singer-songwriter and the co-founder of the artist company WAYBETTER.
Fresh from a world tour, from20 took part in his father’s campaign rallies. Earlier, from20 uploaded a vlog video titled “The campaign log of the youngest son of the Gangneung mayoral candidate” on his social media account. He also posted a photo taken with his father at a campaign event and publicly showed his support, saying, “Dad, I love you.”
