New York Quartet Clone Evoke Political Dissonance and Fury in “Care to Try?”

With the cards you hold
But who’s on trial
Carve their names
Declare your crimes

Since we last checked in, Brooklyn-bred noise rock quartet Clone have been hard at work, honing their craft on stage and in the studio. The band has just returned from a short stint on the road and offer up a blistering video for single “Care to Try?” from their EP of the same name, which was released in October of last year. “Care to Try?” follows up the band’s debut album CL.1, released in 2024.

“Care to Try?” is a powerful anthem of resistance, targeting and taunting the current political administration in the USA with biting lyrics and hard-hitting, guitar-driven discord. Opening with short burst of feedback and a catchy, yet incisive melody, the track quickly takes hold and goes straight for the jugular, with vocalist LG Galleon seething and shouting lyrics of rebellion above the din to dizzying effect. Shades of bands such as Live Skull, Naked Raygun, The Chameleons, and Killing Joke can be heard throughout the track, which eventually explodes into a cacophonous, scorched-earth coda that commands reflection and action.

Filmed and colored by Devan Davies and edited by Galleon, the video for “Care to Try?” perfectly reflects the song’s fiery intent. “With their second go-around things just seem even more hopeless than before,” adds Galleon, “and this video tries to capture he frustration of an ever increasing world gone mad.”

Check out the track and video below, and be sure to catch the band live this Thursday at Berlin Under A in NYC.
