Apple TV+’s comedy-drama stars Jason Segel as a grieving therapist who decides to become more actively involved in his patients’ lives. The show co-stars Harrison Ford and has become a big hit for the streaming service, being nominated for three Golden Globes and eight Emmys.

Now, Variety reports that Scottish actor Karen Gillan will join the fourth season in an undisclosed recurring role. Season four will reportedly feature a time jump, catching up with the characters in an entirely new storyline.

Gillan has enjoyed a successful career in TV and film, best known on the small screen as the character Amy Pond in the sci-fi hit Doctor Who, which she starred in from 2010-13. In film, she played the Marvel character Nebula in three Guardians Of The Galaxy films, two Avengers movies, and 2022’s Thor: Love And Thunder. She has also starred in the rebooted Jumanji films, and will appear opposite Henry Cavill in the forthcoming remake of Highlander.

Shrinking ended its third season run in April, with Harrison Ford winning rave reviews for his portrayal of a therapist living with Parkinson’s disease. At a press day for the show, he remarked that he may not act again after being so enriched by the series.

“Where do you go from here? The kind of work that we’re able to do is remarkable given the tools we have to work with, and the notion that lies behind this series,” he said. “This has been a different kind of job for me, and I’ve been doing this for a long time. This is very special, and it really nurtures me and makes me feel like what we’re doing has value and importance. I look for that in my life, and I’m happy to have found it here.”
