The finale of the superhero show aired recently, with the villanous Homelander finally meeting his demise in a violent confrontation in The White House. The final episodes have divided fans, with the fan-voted “popcorn rating” standing at 54 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes (against a 95 per cent critics’ rating).

While some have called the ending a “10/10” episode, others have been left disappointed, including Musk, who appeared to disagree with the political subtext.

Responding to a post on X (formerly Twitter) that accused Homelander’s death of being an “analogue” for Donald Trump, the billionaire businessman replied: “Pathetic”. Kripke then shared that reply with the quote tweet: “OMG this is his review of what @TheBoysTV did to Homelander, I’ll never get a better review ever.”

The final episode of The Boys arrived on May 20, with the finale being screened in 4DX cinemas the night before. The fifth and final season as a whole drew 57million viewers per episode on average, a record for Amazon’s Prime Video service (via THR).

Kripke has hit back at fans who have been critical of the season’s lack of action. “None of the things that happen in the last few episodes will matter if you don’t flesh out the characters. I’m getting a lot of online dissatisfaction, to put it politely,” he said. “And I’m like, ‘What are you expecting? Are you expecting a huge battle scene every episode?’”

Despite The Boys’ success, the spin-off show Gen V was cancelled last month after just two seasons. Details on why the series was cancelled are still scarce, however comments from cast members promise more details in the future.
