“A Golden Heart that Won’t Die” — LA Indie-pop Duo CD Ghost Haunts the Office After Hours in Video for “When The Rain Stops”

We are feeling it coming
Can’t stop once we’re running
Coming when the rain stops
Shout it from the rooftops

There are days when the office feels less like a workplace than a weather system with fluorescent lights: paper falling from nowhere, clocks chewing up the afternoon, corridors stretching out like a landlord’s bad joke. CD Ghost recognizes this particular purgatory. On their new single and video for When The Rain Stops, the Los Angeles duo turns the slow ache of waiting on someone you love into a midtempo glide that keeps one hand on the dance floor and the other pressed against the bruise.

The song arrives as the lead track from their forthcoming album, When The Rain Stops, and it moves with a woozy patience. Shame, grief, and release are all threaded through the track; the drums push forward with enough muscle to keep the blood moving, while the guitars and synths hang in the air like mist. Cody Han’s vocal harmonies soften the edges near the end, curling around the song in a slow fade that feels like the beginning of another question. There are obvious reference points here: the soft-focus romanticism of Beach House, the pastel electronics of Neon Indian, the sleek heartache of Nation of Language, even a faint afterimage of Hall & Oates if you squint through the smoke. Here, CD Ghost’s sound sits between glossy synth-pop motion and warmer indie-pop drift, where dance beats can bump against acoustic drums.

The video, directed by Blake Dimas and Cody Han, catches that tension with a dreamy performance piece set against the dead-eyed absurdity of corporate life. Papers rain down over the band like bureaucratic dandruff. Hallways become half-awake passageways. The duo wander through the building as if they have mentally resigned from the ol’ nine-to-five and are now broadcasting from some private frequency only lovers, burnouts, and emotionally exhausted clerks can hear. Around them, the workplace continues its dull little rituals, but CD Ghost stays locked into the song, turning corporate drift into a small act of escape.

Watch the video for When The Rain Stops below:

When The Rain Stops promises a full-length concerned with holding onto something while the rest of the room comes apart, and this title track makes that premise feel sentimental without getting syrup in the machinery, wounded without begging for a medal, and hopeful in the stubborn, slightly ridiculous way pop music can be when it remembers that heartbreak sometimes needs a beat before it can breathe.
