‘Gen V’ fans react to cancellation of ‘The Boys’ spinoff: “The most Netflix thing Prime has done”

Fans and stars have shared their reactions to Gen V being cancelled after two seasons.

It was confirmed last week that The Boys spinoff on Amazon Prime Video would not be back for a third run, having concluded its second ahead of the fifth and final season of the main show.

Many fans have shared their dismay at the news, especially given the potential shown for Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair) is powerful enough to go head-to-head with Homelander.

“Cancelling Gen V after revealing to us that Marie can basically can go toe to toe with Homelander is insaaane,” one wrote on X.

“So they made the entire Gen V spinoff of The Boys to build up Marie Moreau as an equal of sorts to Homelander… the one person strong enough to face him head on. Now with three episodes left, everything from that show has barely even been mentioned,” another added.

“So they made two seasons to establish how Marie is someone who can stand up to Homelander and yet no sign of Gen V characters in the final season of Boys… now on top of that, Gen V is cancelled?” wrote a third.

Others expressed dismay at the show being cancelled while prequel series Vought Rising was going ahead, one sharing: “CANCEL VOUGHT RISING AND BRING BACK GEN V.”

Another echoed: “WHO THE FUCK WANTS VOUGHT RISING CANCEL IT AND BEING BACK GEN V,” while a third said: “I don’t care for that vought rising shit. give me this show back.”

Meanwhile, another fan joked of Netflix’s tendency to cancel shows: “Cancelling Gen V is the most Netflix thing Prime has done.”

Cancelling Gen V is the most Netflix thing Prime has done.

using gen v to largely set up every major plot for the latest seasons of the boys (which is now only setting up a prequel) and not renewing it for AT LEAST a last season to wrap up their individual arcs in the series– I hope vought rising tanks HARD pic.twitter.com/e9BFR5XVMY

Sinclair has also reacted to the news, sharing on her Instagram Stories: “There’s so much I wanna (and will) say, but for today I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. I’m so happy you’re here and I’m so grateful for this incredible experience.”

London Thor, who played a form of Jordan Li, added on her Instagram: “This show changed my life. So long Jordan. Thank you for everything,” while Maddie Phillips (Cate Dunlap) added: “Live laugh love, later !!! <3.”

In a statement on the cancellation, Gen V creators Evan Goldberg and Eric Kripke said: “While we wish we could keep the party going another season at Godolkin, we’re committed to continuing the Gen V characters’ stories in The Boys season five and other Vought Cinematic Universe projects on the horizon. You’ll see them again.”

Kripke previously hinted a third season, telling Entertainment Weekly: “There’s a take for season 3 of Gen V that I love. It’s really surprising and unexpected, but great and really emotionally grounded. I would love to do it.

“If the ratings are good enough, they’ll give us a season three. If they’re not good enough, they won’t. That’s just the business. So tell all your friends to tune in and watch Gen V and, hopefully, we’ll get a season three.”
