The synthpop icons have returned with their first new music of 2026 – a funk-inflected call to arms aided by Chic legend Nile Rodgers. Rodgers and Duran Duran have worked extensively together since their chart-topping remix of ‘The Reflex’ in 1984.
Now, Duran Duran have released ‘Free To Love’ with a Top Of The Pops-inspired video. Directed by Jonas Åkerlund, it also features Clara Amfo as their announcer.
Speaking about the track, Simon Le Bon said: “Free To Love is disco for the 2020s. It’s up-beat and up-tempo; it’s about freedom; it’s about loving the modern world instead of hating it, and that is something we need right now. Be free! Be free to love!”
Meanwhile, Nick Rhodes added: “Every time we plug in and play with Nile, the electricity he generates could light up a whole city… ‘Free To Love’ is our call to all the people out there who want peace, hope and understanding to prevail.
“Free To Love’ has a simple message, there is nothing more important than freedom and love. We certainly need a lot more of both in the world right now.”
Nile Rodgers also said of the collaboration: “True love is free and unconditional. My love for Duran Duran and what our music together has always been about, is the love we share for our song’s deepest meanings. Whatever chaos is going on outside, inside the studio we’re free to love our peace.” Take a listen to ‘Free To Love’ below:
Duran Duran are gearing up to play a huge show at BST Hyde Park on Sunday July 5.
So far, special guests Scissor Sisters have been announced, with the full supporting line-up to be revealed at a later date.

Elsewhere, the band spoke to NME in 2023 about their desire to perform at Glastonbury – something they have surprisingly not yet done. “I’d love to [do it] – we just need to get the right slot, that’s all,” Le Bon said.
“We have had the chance to do it before, but it wasn’t playing the main stage and I think we’d like to be doing that for sure. I’m sure we’re in negotiations [with Glastonbury], and if not, we will be.”
The band were also recently among the musicians to have hit out at President Donald Trump’s administration following ICE’s fatal shooting of a woman in Minneapolis.
