The Euphoria star was set to appear as herself in a scene involving former Runway magazine colleagues played by Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci. She was set to approach the character Emily Charlton, played by Emily Blunt, who now works as the head of Dior’s United States operation.
Seeking her help to save the magazine, they arrive to find Blunt’s character helping dress a celebrity client, played by Sweeney as herself in the three-minute scene.
But according to Entertainment Weekly, it was a “creative decision” to remove the scene due to it not working structurally in the final cut of the movie.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 comes 20 years after the first film was released, and sees Streep, Hathaway, Blunt and Tucci all return to their original roles.
Directed by David Frankel and written by Aline Brosh McKenna, the movie is set to arrive in cinemas on May 1 and will focus on Miranda Priestly (Streep) navigating the changing climate of print journalism.
It was recently confirmed that Lady Gaga is also part of the cast, although it is not yet clear which role she will be taking on.
Gaga and Doechii also recently shared the track ‘Runway’ which is set to feature in the film. The song was written by Gaga alongside Bruno Mars, Jaylah Hickmon, Andrew Watt, Henry Walter, Dernst “D’Mile” Emile II and Jayda Love.
The original film, based on the 2003 novel by Lauren Weisberger, starred Hathaway as a journalism graduate who lands a job at a prestigious fashion magazine, assisting its demanding editor-in-chief Priestly (Streep).
Elsewhere, Sweeney is currently starring in the third season of Euphoria alongside Zendaya and Jacob Elordi on HBO Max (plus Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK).
Fans recently questioned the tone of the new season after a trailer showed Sweeney’s character Cassie in a series of highly sexualised “humiliating” outfits.
