Fortnite Festival launched at the end of 2023 and was a hit with music fans. The rhythm game allowed users to play along to a number of ‘Jam Tracks’ using their existing controller or a Guitar Hero-style peripheral.
Last year, a new co-op mode was introduced that allowed users to create a virtual band with their mates. In a new update, Epic Games has added Mic Support to Fortnite Festival, meaning you can sing along to more than 600 jam tracks as part of the game.
“With Mic Vocals, sing along in real time with any microphone that works in Fortnite on PC and Console, and with Pro Drums, plug in a Rock Band 4 or compatible MIDI drum kit to make the drum highway feel even more real,” reads a blog post. “Want to break away from the mic stand? You can now walk around and shift positions freely in the Jam Ring while you play. The new Quick Mix UI helps you quickly swap or shuffle tracks while jamming for immediate mashups.”

“I’ve been waiting for this for a long time. Rock Band is finally reborn. I just hope it lasts a long time,” one fan wrote on the Resetera forums.
To celebrate the update, two new karaoke classics have been added to Fortnite Festival – The Darkness’ ‘I Believe In A Thing Called Love’ and Vanessa Carlton’s ‘A Thousand Miles’.

Epic Games acquired Rock Band developers Harmonix back in 2021. “Together we will push the creative boundaries of what’s possible and invent new ways for our players to make, perform and share music,” said Harmonix co-founder Alex Rigopulos at the time.
Meanwhile former Guitar Hero creators are currently working on new rhythm game Stage Tour that should launch later this year. “We want Stage Tour to feel familiar and authentic, but also fresh, utilising modern technology to connect gamers with the music they love and enjoying a platform that evolves and grows over time,” Stage Tour boss Simon Ebejer explained. “With new instruments and deep charting systems, we’re raising the bar on what we believe a rhythm game can be, while also catering to those wishing to simply enjoy a casual experience and have a good time.”
As well as the new karaoke mode, jazz-pop sensation Laufey is set to headline Fortnite Festival season 14, which goes live later today (April 16).
