Death Stranding Director’s Cut was released on Xbox on the fifth anniversary of the original game’s launch, November 7, 2024.

Death Stranding and its Director’s Cut were both PlayStation exclusives, but now Xbox owners can use the play anywhere feature to play it on their consoles or PC.
The game follows Sam ‘Porter’ Bridges, played by The Walking Dead‘s Norman Reedus. He’s on a mission to reconnect a fractured America by building a mail network across the country.
It’s not the most exciting premise on the surface, but as a Hideo Kojima game, it’s full of strange and spectacular things that have captivated fans for years. Now that Xbox owners have got their hands on it, they’re loving it, too.

“I’m so glad the Xbox community can enjoy this masterful experience now,” wrote The_Guitar__Guy under a tweet from Holidayytyi’s stating: “Fantastic game. I am in absolute love with Death Stranding. Playing this masterpiece for my first time on XBOX SS.”
Others are sharing tips about the stranger elements of the game. Jez Corden tweeted: “PROTIP: For Death Stranding for new Xbox players and those who don’t know. Just like in real life, ghosts hate it when you pee on them or in their general direction.”
There is a reason for this. Sam’s body produces a chemical that repels the enemies in the game, so there are grenades made out of his urine and excrement that you can use to your advantage.
Now is the perfect time to get into Death Stranding if you haven’t already, as a sequel, Death Stranding 2, is coming out sometime in 2025.
